Video Broadcasting students visit WALB Studios in Albany, GA (4.18.17)

Video Broadcasting students from C.A. Gray Jr. High school got a behind the scenes tour of the WALB news station in Albany. WALB News 10 Meteorologist Chris Zelman guided the students through the newsroom and even allowed students to practice giving the weather forecast on the green screen. Students were able to observe staff working in all different departments preparing stories for upcoming broadcast. "My favorite part of the studio was the Master control room," said student Jake Simmons. In the control room, students were able to see how commercials and camera transitions are handled across multiple networks. Students really appreciated the opportunity be able to ask questions to industry professionals as they developed a deeper understanding of all of the audio, video, and film careers. “Students were able to match audio and film job titles with qualifications and responsibilities that they learned in the classroom," said Video teacher Michael Rewis. All broadcasting students are members of a Career Technical Student Organization, SkillsUSA, where they compete in Video competitions with other students across Georgia. After the tour, students were treated to a lunch at Chick-fil-A. Special thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Matney of Moultrie, for sponsoring our Field Trip and lunch.
